Illy Introduces Its First-Ever Dual Coffee & Espresso Single Serve System

Illy, creator of the first modern espresso machine eight decades ago, is innovating once again with its new Y5 Milk Espresso and Coffee system. It is illy’s first capsule machine with an integrated milk tank and frother that creates both espresso and brewed coffee-based drinks like cappuccino, latte macchiato, and steamed milk with one simple touch. Beyond one touch preparation of espresso-based drinks with and without milk and coffee, the Y5 Milk Espresso & Coffee machine conveniently dispenses hot water for tea and steamed milk.

Building on illy’s proprietary iperEspresso capsule technology, this system sets a new bar for quality preparation and versatility in single serve machines. It will be initially available at gourmet retail leader Sur La Table starting in August and at illy stores and e-shop, priced at $399.

With a contemporary design available in black and satin finish options, the Y5 Milk Espresso and Coffee system occupies a small footprint, measuring 8.5-inches wide, 11.2-inches long and 9.6-inches tall, ideal for any kitchen. A touch-sensitive menu located at the top of the machine consists of intuitive, artistic icons representing six preparations. A 30-ounce water tank and 16.9-ounce milk tank are both front facing and easily removable, ideal for refrigerating milk when the system isn’t in use. Variable volume control allows adjustment for beverage portion size, and other helpful features include LED lighting over the cup during beverage dispensing and a power save function that activates after 10 minutes of non-use.

Illy first introduced its innovative iperEspresso system in 2008 and is protected by five patents worldwide. Each iperEspresso capsule uses a two phase process, encompassing distinct hyperinfusion and emulsion stages that work together to deliver aromatic, intense and full-bodied espresso, topped with a rich, long-lasting and velvety crema. The iperEspresso capsule technology further evolved with the introduction of a capsule specially designed with a mini filter for brewing an extraordinary cup of classic coffee, with no compromise.

At the core of the iperEspresso system is illy’s signature coffee blend, containing nine types of 100 percent sustainably grown Arabica beans, all directly purchased from growers. Twenty five years ago, illy pioneered directly buying beans from growers to ensure unparalleled bean quality and sustainable practices were adopted. The company also offers single origin capsules for espresso. IperEspresso single serve espresso capsules retail for $19.00 (21-count), and coffee capsules at $16.50 (18-count).
