Summer Market Treasure Hunt

By Lorrie Baumann

This summer’s gift and home markets offer a wealth of treasures waiting to be discovered. Dallas Total Home & Gift Market was held in June, so it’ll be over by the time you read this, and coming up next is The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, which will be held July 9-15 at AmericasMart, Atlanta, Georgia. Las Vegas Market will be held July 28-August 1 at the World Market Center in Las Vegas, and the NY NOW Home and Lifestyle Collections will be shown August 11-14 at Javits Center in New York City. We’ve done some advance scouting for products that will be coming out at these markets.

The Kitchen Collection from Calaisio, Inc.

Calaisio is offering three different sizes of Pillivuyt oven-to-table baking dishes, each with its own beautiful heat-resistant Calaisio carrier serving basket. The 1-quart casserole retails for $112, the 2-quart casserole for $140, and the 3-quart for $179. For more information, email sales@calaisio.com and see them at Las Vegas Market.

Artisan Hand-Loomed Cotton Table Runner

Arcadia Home will be showing its Artisan Hand-Loomed Cotton Table Runner in three colorways: Grey Dots, Gray Block Print and the Indigo that’s shown here. Gorgeous color, contemporary pattern, and the evidence of artisan’s hand combine to make this a conversation piece that feels special, fresh and elegant.

The runner is 18 inches by 96 inches, and each is handmade with design as unique as the artisan who creates it. The creation of this design involves spinning and weaving hand-dyed cotton using artisan techniques that have been passed down through generations. Hand-sewn kantha stitching is the finishing touch. The craftsmanship involved at each stage of hand-dying, hand-spinning, hand-looming, hand-cutting and hand-sewing ensures that every finished piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

It retails for $135. For more information, visit Arcadia Home at www.arcadiahomeinc.com, call 212.366.1836, email info@arcadiahomeinc.com or see the runners and more in the Arcadia Home showroom on floor C10 at Las Vegas Market.

A World of Creativity at Las Vegas Market

Dorothy Belshaw, President Gift+Home Décor, International Market Centers, has been working overtime since she joined the organization upon her departure from the company that produced the NY NOW trade show to improve the selection of gourmet housewares and giftware that’s offered in the Las Vegas Market’s showrooms. Over the last year or so, we’ve seen those efforts come to fruition with expansive displays in the temporary booths in the Pavilions, a collection of exhibit spaces across the courtyard from the three main buildings that house the Market’s permanent showrooms as well as Building C, the permanent home of many gourmet housewares, tabletop and giftware collections. Celebrate Fabulous at Las Vegas Market

By Lorrie Baumann

Las Vegas Market has been working hard to expand the range of products that will be of interest to Kitchenware News readers, and the hard work is paying off. This winter’s Las Vegas Market has a lot to see in the showrooms and pavilions along with a grand opportunity to meet The Fabulous Beekman Boys, who are emerging as thoughtful spokesmen for a generation that values fresh, local and seemingly effortless design and cuisine. Also, they’re both fun and funny.

joshBrentHorizontalKnown as The Fabulous Beekman Boys are Brent Ridge, physician and former Vice President of Healthy Living for Martha Stewart Omnimedia; and his partner, Josh Kilmer-Purcell, advertising executive and New York Times bestselling author, The celebrity duo began developing their unique and chic brand strategy when they purchased the historic Beekman 1802 Farm in Sharon Springs, New York, in 2007 and then had to start figuring out (fast) how to pay the mortgage and make new lives for themselves as gentlemen farmers after the national economy took a dive in the Great Recession. The pair launched a line of goat milk cheeses and soaps, and quickly added other artisanal items to the Beekman 1802 brand. The popularity of the brand spawned a reality television show, “The Fabulous Beekman Boys,” now airing on the Cooking Channel; they also competed and won the grand prize in CBS’s “The Amazing Race” in 2012, and their Beekman 1802 product line of gourmet foods launched in Target stores last November.

Celebrities aside, there’s much to see this winter at the Las Vegas Market. Here’s a small sampling.

Hester & Cook Introduces Chilewich Paper Collection

hester_and_cook_kitchen_papers_placemats_coasters_runner_wrapping_paper_placecards

Kitchen Papers, a brand of Hester & Cook Design Group, has launched a collection of Chilewich printed paper placemats and runners, along with coordinated coasters and place cards. The printed paper can be used for tabletop settings, as well as for gift wrapping in conjunction with Chilewich exclusive yarn, which will be packaged especially for this purpose. Designed by Chilewich and licensed by Hester & Cook Design, the new paper collection is now available to wholesale accounts and consumers through Hester & Cook’s distribution channels and online at www.hesterandcook.com.

Sandy Chilewich, Creative Director and Founder of Chilewich, explains the impetus for collaboration: “Like most people, I sometimes require paper products for my tables. Often I don’t have enough of my own product for a large crowd or the event I’m hosting is not even in my own home. I had been frustrated by the limited choices in the marketplace for contemporary design in paper. Hester & Cook’s appreciation of design, their commitment to quality, in addition to the fact that they produce everything in the U.S., made them an ideal collaborator.”

Angie Hester Cook, Co-Founder of Hester & Cook Design Group elaborates: “Incorporating the Chilewich look into Kitchen Papers makes so much sense … What a great brand to bring to the consumer for fuss-free entertaining. This collaboration offers the consumer an option to style their table with paper, while still maintaining the modern and elegant aesthetic of Chilewich.”

Suggested retail prices: Pad of 50 Placemats $27. Table Runner/Gift Wrap $29. Place Cards (set of 12) $4. Coasters (set of 20) $13. Twine (for gift wrap) $9.
